Considerations to consider when considering immigration.
Over the years we have had the privilege of placing candidates in countries other than their own and there are several similarities that thread through the Recruitment process.
We have made a quick list of items to consider during the Recruitment process.
When you are being recruited for a post that is outside of your borders there are several key elements to consider.
As a Candidate make sure to do as much research as possible.
Seems like a no brainer, but you would be surprised by the amount of fact checks that go into working aboard. Lets break it down:
Know your expenses (https://www.expatistan.com), of course these figures are averaged, but at least give you an insight.
Get a dummy payslip! Super important, as the Taxation and statutory payments differ between countries.
Make sure you are dealing with a competent Recruiter, that knows how to assist people in immigration, be it on a temporary or permanent basis. As much as we would like to believe in John Lennons world of no borders, these do very much so exist.
Just google the local labour law. There are always websites that summarize the law as per, working hours, leave pay, termination guidelines…
Get a Letter of Appointment! This should be done regardless of where you are working.
Understand what you are leaving behind, be it a support structure, family or your local neighbourhood.
Changing your Employer should not be an easy peasy decision, now add changing your location!
Honestly it is an awesome experience and great for career development in most circumstances, however proceed with extra caution.
